Door of No ReturnSummer 2024
3D modelling & Conceptual Design
The Door of No Return is a proposed artwork inspired by the historical gates that marked the ports from which enslaved individuals were forcibly taken from various parts of Africa, never to return to their homes. The design of this door draws influence from the architecture of Zanzibar, particularly from Tippu Tip's door, incorporating traditional motifs commonly found in the region’s door designs. Notably, a chain motif is included, symbolizing the legacy of slave ownership, as it was often used to signify that a house's master was a slave owner. The design, modeling, and rendering were developed by me, based on extensive research conducted at Studio Benton.
